Kia ora. I'm Kasey. Welcome to my local climate newsletter.

I've been heartbroken and angry about climate inaction for a long time.

The more I've learnt about climate change, the more clearly I see how good the world would be if we took serious action to protect communities from the disruption of global warming.

So, I started Welly Climate Nerd in 2024. My goal was to tell super local stories about climate change for Wellingtonians.

Since then, the growing community around Welly Climate Nerd have submitted on Council plans to cut bike lanes, explored the history of trains and trams in the capital, and learned about community action like Everybody Eats.

The "how" on solving climate change is largely a solved problem, thanks to decades of work from clever people. What is holding us back is power.

Welly Climate Nerd is a labour of love to spread the word about why Wellington will be better if politicians address climate change. In the long term, this community might be exactly what we need to build power to improve the capital.
